Average Wait Time — 140 Days: How Long Patients in Spain Wait to See a Doctor

According to a study by the OCU (Organization of Consumers and Users), patients in Spain wait an average of 140 days to get an initial appointment with a specialist within the public healthcare system. This is a full month longer than the official figures reported by the Ministry of Health. Nearly half of those surveyed said their condition worsened while waiting.
🔸 The worst-performing regions are Aragon (165 days) and the Balearic Islands (162 days).

🔸 Even the best regions — Castilla-La Mancha (99 days) and the Basque Country (112 days) — fall far short of the official target of 60 days.

🔸 The most overwhelmed specialties are ophthalmology (175 days), neurology, and traumatology.

🔸 The average wait time for diagnostic tests is 98 days, more than double the official standard of 45.
