New Tax Deduction in Spain: Up to €2,550 for Living with Elderly Relatives

Starting in 2025, Spain's tax declaration includes an additional fiscal benefit for those living with elderly relatives over the age of 65. This is an effort to recognize the importance of family caregiving and support households that care for older generations.

📊 What you can receive:

  • €1,150 for each cohabiting relative over 65 years old.
  • €2,550 — if the relative is over 75 years old.

Eligibility requirements:

  • The elderly person must live with you for at least six months.
  • Their annual income (excluding exempt income) must not exceed €8,000.
  • They must not file their own tax return with a refund amount exceeding €1,800.
  • Also applicable to people with a disability of 33% or more, regardless of age.

🧾 How to claim it:

Include the elderly relative's details in your income tax return. If the tax system recognizes that the requirements are met, the amount will automatically be applied as "mínimo por ascendientes" — reducing your tax or increasing your refund
