Spain Tops Global Ranking of Countries for Digital Nomads

Spain has taken first place in the Global Digital Nomad Report 2025 as the best destination for digital nomads. Contrary to the stereotype of working from the beach, the leading countries in the ranking are those offering not only a high quality of life but, more importantly, clear legal pathways for long-term integration.

The study shows that the profile of the “nomad” has changed dramatically. Most are no longer freelancers but full-time employees of traditional companies. Their main goal is not just travel, but “strategic citizenship.” They choose countries where they can legalize their stay and potentially obtain a second passport.

Governments, including Spain’s, no longer see “nomads” as tourists. They view them as “mobile micro-economies” — a valuable source of human and financial capital comparable to foreign direct investment. They create steady demand for housing and services and contribute to the growth of new startups.
