The average salary in Spain has exceeded €28,000, but most people actually earn around €15,575

According to recently published data from Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) for 2023, the average annual salary in Spain was €28,049.94 — a 4.1% increase compared to 2022. However, the most common salary was only €15,575. This gap is due to the high proportion of workers in low-paying jobs: one in four Spaniards earns between €14,000 and €20,000 per year.

The gender pay gap remains: men earned an average of €30,372, while women earned €25,591 — 84.3% of what men earned. The highest salaries were found in the energy sector (€54,447) and finance (€48,922), while the lowest were in hospitality (€16,985) and personal services (€19,751).

Among the regions, the highest average salary was in the Basque Country (€33,504), and the lowest was in Extremadura (€23,684).

📌 The data refers to 2023, as the INE publishes statistics with a delay — based on tax and social security records, which require time to process
