Spain is already paying more for electricity than most EU countries

Spain has become one of the countries with the highest electricity prices in 2025, surpassing the EU average, according to Eurostat.

In the first half of 2025, the price reached €29.07 per 100 kWh, while the EU average was €28.62.

A year ago, the country was at the lower end of the ranking, with prices below the EU average.

Experts attribute the price increase to the plan for the gradual shutdown of nuclear power plants, even though nuclear energy, in their view, stabilizes the system and lowers electricity costs. A PwC study claims that abandoning nuclear energy in 2024 would have led to a 58% price increase.

👉 Gas prices, on the other hand, fell by 8.1% in 2025, and in this respect Spain is below the EU average.
