Revolution at Uber: “women-only” option and driverless cars in Madrid

Uber has announced the launch of two major new features in Spain.

👩 “Mujeres Conductoras” (Women Drivers) option

Starting today, female passengers can choose an option that guarantees a woman behind the wheel.

The feature is two-way. Female passengers can select women drivers, and women drivers can set a “female passengers only” filter so they do not have to pick up men (particularly relevant for night shifts).

🤖 Robotaxis coming to Madrid

Uber has officially confirmed plans to launch autonomous taxis (without drivers) on the streets of Madrid as early as 2026.

The Spanish capital has made the shortlist of pilot cities worldwide, alongside Houston, Hong Kong, and Zurich. The company is currently negotiating with authorities (DGT) to legalize the routes.

📈 Spain has become a gold mine for Uber: revenue in 2025 grew by 50%. The conflict with traditional taxi drivers has largely shifted to cooperation: 6,000 licensed taxis are already connected to the app (more than 2,000 of them in Barcelona).
