Hacienda Puts an End to Bizum Rumours: Who Will Actually Be Monitored?

Spain’s Ministry of Finance has issued an official clarification to put an end to speculation about the alleged blanket monitoring of transfers made via Bizum.

The main change will come into force in February 2026. From that moment on, financial institutions will be required to report monthly to the Tax Agency on the total revenue received through Bizum. However, this obligation applies exclusively to self-employed individuals and professionals who use the system to collect payments for their services.

Banks will provide information on the full identification of the business, merchant numbers, terminals, settlement accounts and, most importantly, the total monthly income obtained through this service. The data will be transmitted in aggregated form per business owner, not per individual transaction.

Important information for private users: transfers between individuals are not subject to reporting. If you send money to friends to split a dinner bill or to relatives as a gift, the new rules will not affect you in any way.
