Spain Implements Progressive Return to Work After Long-Term Illness
Starting in 2025, Spain may introduce a new format for returning to work after a long-term illness. The Ministry of Social Protection is proposing a "gradual" reintegration process, applicable only to employees who have been on medical leave for more than 180 days and work at least 80% of a full-time schedule.
π For a period of 30 days, the employee would be allowed to work part-time while receiving:
β 50% of their salary,
β and 50% of their temporary disability benefit.
This initiative is part of a broader reform aimed at reducing the number of sick leaves and increasing labor market flexibility. However, trade unions have criticized the proposal as underdeveloped and are calling for a more comprehensive approach.
π Weβre following the negotiations closely β these changes could affect thousands of workers across the country.
